What your numbers suggest
Liquid assets are a small share of your total
Cash-like assets are about 4% of your total assets, so your total net worth may be higher than the amount you can access quickly.
Most of your investable wealth is in retirement accounts
Retirement accounts are about 80% of your investable assets. Those balances may have taxes or access rules that are not modeled here.

Liquid wealth viewcash you can actually reach
Liquid runway is based only on the values you entered. It is not a budget plan.
Investable wealth viewassets that can grow
Investable assets are not the same as FIRE-ready assets. Retirement accounts may have taxes, penalties, or access rules not modeled here.
Home & vehicle equity view
Home equity can be real wealth, but it is not the same as liquid cash.
How you compare (US households)Federal Reserve SCF 2022
How does your net worth compare with US households? These are household (family) figures, not individual, from the 2022 Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances. They are educational reference points, not targets.
| Age band | Median net worth | Average (mean) |
|---|---|---|
| Under 35 | $39,000 | $183,500 |
| 35–44You | $135,600 | $549,600 |
| 45–54 | $247,200 | $975,800 |
| 55–64 | $364,500 | $1,566,900 |
| 65–74 | $409,900 | $1,794,600 |
| 75 or older | $335,600 | $1,624,100 |
Your total net worth is $242,500. For the 35–44 band, the median household is $135,600 and the average is $549,600. The average is pulled up by the wealthiest households, so the median is usually closer to a typical household.

Total, liquid, and investable net worth — what’s the difference?
Your total net worth is everything you own minus everything you owe, including home equity and vehicles. It is the headline number, but not all of it is easy to use. Liquid net worth narrows that down to cash-like assets minus short-term, high-interest debt — money you could actually reach in a hurry. Investable assets are the balances that can grow or produce income, such as a brokerage account, 401(k), IRA, or HSA, and they exclude your home and car.
This personal balance sheet calculator shows all three side by side, plus your debt-to-asset ratio and home equity, because two people with the same total net worth can be in very different positions depending on how usable their wealth is. It does not model taxes or penalties on retirement accounts, so an investable balance is not the same as a spendable, after-tax amount.
Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate net worth?
Net worth is everything you own (assets) minus everything you owe (liabilities). This calculator sums your cash, investments, retirement accounts, property, and vehicles, then subtracts credit cards, loans, and mortgages to show your total net worth.
What is liquid net worth, and how is it different from total net worth?
Liquid net worth focuses on money you can access quickly: cash and bank accounts minus short-term, high-interest debt like credit cards. Total net worth can be much higher because it includes home equity, retirement accounts, and vehicles that are not easy to spend right away.
Should I include my house and car in my net worth?
You can. Home equity (home value minus the mortgage) and vehicle equity (value minus the auto loan) are part of total net worth. This tool lets you toggle them on or off so you can see your net worth with and without assets that are harder to spend or that lose value over time.
Are my numbers private?
Yes. The calculator runs entirely in your browser. There is no login and no bank connection, and the values you enter are not sent to Worth101 servers. If you save a local snapshot, it is stored only on your device.
Does this calculator account for taxes on my retirement accounts?
No. Balances are treated as the current estimated value you enter. It does not model income tax, early-withdrawal penalties, or capital-gains tax, so a 401(k) or traditional IRA balance is not the same as the spendable, after-tax amount.
